Paul Thomas
President

Paul Thomas joined Green Mountain Energy Company in May of 2000 as Chief Operating Officer and became President in January of 2002.

Under Paul's leadership, Green Mountain has become the nation's leading provider of cleaner energy and carbon offset products. The company has moved beyond its roots as a residential retail electricity provider by expanding its offerings to include commercial retail electricity, industry leading green marketing partnerships with utilities in regulated states, and a portfolio of carbon reduction services for commercial and institutional sector clients looking to improve their environmental position.

Paul has over 30 years experience in executive and managerial leadership in global energy markets.  Prior to joining Green Mountain, Paul was the President of a major North American energy marketing and trading business in the US, where he managed a portfolio of natural gas and electricity businesses. Paul previously managed a U.S. crude supply and trading business with responsibilities that included resourcing for a 1 million barrel per day refinery system, as well as crude oil marketing.

Paul graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Michigan in 1977 with Bachelors' degrees in Chemical Engineering and Metallurgical Engineering. He also earned a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Chicago in 1989 and a Juris Doctor degree from Chicago-Kent College of Law in 1982.

Robert P. Thomas
Chief Legal Officer and Chief Environmental Officer

Robert P. Thomas joined Green Mountain Energy Company in January 2001 as Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary.  He was appointed Chief Legal Officer in May 2003 and Chief Environmental Officer in February 2011.  Bob manages the company's legal, environmental, regulatory and governmental affairs, information technology, and human resources functions.  He served as the Independent Retail Electric Providers Segment representative on the Board of Directors of the Electric Reliability Council of Texas during 2008 and 2009.

From 1988 to 2000, Bob held a variety of legal positions with a global  fresh food products company.  Bob handled acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, and financings in the U.S., Europe and Latin America and had responsibility for domestic and international litigation and arbitration matters.  He also provided antitrust counseling for the company’s businesses around the world.

Prior to 1988, Bob was with a law firm in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he handled commercial litigation matters in both state and federal courts.  After graduating from the University of Cincinnati College of Law in 1981 with a Juris Doctor degree, Bob held a clerkship with the Hon. Raymond E. Shannon of the First District Court of Appeals of Ohio.  He received his Bachelor's of Science degree in Finance in 1978 from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.

Paul N. Markovich
President of Residential Services

Paul N. Markovich joined Green Mountain Energy Company in August 2000 as director of business development.  Today he is responsible for providing service to Green Mountain’s hundreds of thousands of residential customers nationwide.

Paul was instrumental in developing the company’s first apartment community sales channel, which continues to be a significant contributor to Green Mountain’s business in Texas. In 2001, Paul was appointed president of the Midwest region where he was responsible for providing service to Green Mountain’s Ohio customers and, subsequently, its Pennsylvania customers. In 2003, he returned to Austin, where he currently resides, and expanded his responsibilities to support residential customers in all markets.

Paul has over 30 years of energy industry experience and has held leadership positions in divisions ranging from information technology and financial controls to purchasing and supply and trading.

Paul graduated Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana in 1978 with a bachelor's degree in Mathematics and German. He earned a Master of Business Administration in Finance from the University of Chicago in 1983. In addition to his academic achievements, Paul is a member of the Indiana High School Wrestling Hall of Fame.

Scott Hart
President of Commercial Services

Scott Hart joined Green Mountain Energy Company in August 2004 to launch the company’s Commercial Services division. Scott‘s career has been one of leading innovation in the energy industry. Having spent more than 20 years working in the retail energy / utility industry, Scott has extensive executive experience managing both retail energy supply and energy demand-side business operations.

Before joining Green Mountain Energy Company in 2004, Scott worked for some of the largest energy / utility companies in the world. Scott started his career in the Texas gas industry and later moved to an electric utility where he served in a variety of executive positions, including Vice President of Strategy in the national Commercial and Industrial market. After the deregulation of the Texas electricity market, Scott started one of the first competitive Retail Electricity Providers in the state of Texas. Scott joined Green Mountain in 2004 as President of the newly created Commercial Services division.

A native Texan, Scott received a Masters of Business Administration from Baylor University and a Bachelor of Science from Tarleton State University.

Mark McShane
Senior Vice President of Supply

Mark McShane joined Green Mountain Energy Company in March 2011 as Senior Vice President, Supply. Prior to joining Green Mountain, Mark worked in the retail electricity supply industry for 20 years, serving in multiple capacities and responsibility levels in the areas of power planning, dispatch, portfolio development, risk management and supply execution.  Most recently, his roles included Vice President, ERCOT Energy Supply and Director, Retail Supply.

Mark is a 1990 graduate of the University of Texas in Austin with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering.

Helen Brauner
Senior Vice President of Marketing & Strategic Planning

Helen Brauner joined Green Mountain Energy Company in November 2004 as a marketing manager. She eventually ran Green Mountain’s marketing team as the Director of Marketing, where she oversaw the marketing for green power programs in five states and served as company spokesperson. In 2008 Helen took on the role of Senior Assistant to the CEO. In 2009 she became the company’s Vice President of Strategic Planning. In 2011, Helen expanded her role to manage Marketing, PR and Strategic Planning for the company.

While in graduate school Helen worked for the University of Texas’ Clean Energy Incubator in Austin, TX, where she was responsible for evaluating business plans and providing strategic advice to early-stage clean technology companies. Prior to graduate school Helen was the Manager of Database Marketing for a music and movement company for families and young children based in Greensboro, NC.  From 1991 to 1997 Helen worked as a consultant and developed internal financial reporting applications for an international accounting firm in Houston, TX.

Helen received a bachelor’s degree in economics from Rice University in 1991. She earned a master of business administration from the University of Texas in 2004, where she earned a Longhorn Business Scholarship, Sord Award and Dean’s Award for Academic Excellence.

Michael Current
Vice President, Finance, Accounting and Compliance

Michael Current joined Green Mountain Energy Company as Vice President, Finance, Accounting and Compliance in November 2010, bringing more than 16 years of energy experience with him. In this position, Michael manages the accounting, finance, Sarbanes Oxley compliance, treasury and planning and analysis for the Company.

Before joining Green Mountain Michael was Vice President, Financial Planning and Analysis with an international wholesale energy company, a position he held since August of 2009. In this capacity, Michael was responsible for budgeting, forecasting, long term planning, and management reporting. Since joining the Treasury group in September of 2006, Michael moved to the FP&A group as Director of FP&A in January of 2007. Prior to this, Michael held various corporate planning, financial analysis, and business development positions at a variety of energy and oil companies. He began his career as a mechanical engineer for a small manufacturing company in Houston, Texas.

Michael holds a Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin and a Masters in Business from the Jones School at Rice University in Houston, Texas.

Leonard ‘Bucky’ Gardner
Director of Risk Management

Leonard 'Bucky' Gardner III joined Green Mountain Energy Company in January 2011 as Director of Risk Management. In this position, Bucky manages the credit and market risk functions of the organization. Prior to Green Mountain, he managed the Portfolio Valuation Group at a Texas retail electricity provider, where his responsibilities included transaction valuation, risk reporting and system implementation. Before joining an international wholesale energy company in the fall of 2008 where he played a pivotal role in assisting with the acquisition and integration of a retail electricity provider, Bucky worked as a Senior Consultant for a financial services company in New York City, advising clients in the energy industry on risk management.

Bucky holds a Bachelors of Science in Mathematics from the University of South Carolina and a Masters of Science in Economics from the Colorado School of Mines in Golden Colorado.
