Net-zero energy and net-zero water
6.5 kW
Sun Club’s first project in Maryland.
The Maryland Parks Foundation is bringing a SEED (Sustainable Education Every Day) classroom to its 35,000 annual visitors. A SEED classroom is a facility that is a modular and portable and constructed to be a hands-on teaching tool.
Sun Club provided funding of $96,509 for two elements of the classroom, electricity and water. Net-zero electricity components include a 6.5 kW solar array, inverter, water heater, LED light fixtures, sensors and controls, and all wiring to be in exposed metal conduit that will produce approximately 8,000 kWh annually. Net-zero water components include vortex downspout filters, composting toilet, rainwater cistern, water metering system, grey water tank, hand pump at lab sink, and green wall with water circulation with plants. These sustainable upgrades allow the SEED classroom to meet net-zero energy and net-zero water needs to make the space self-sustaining!
