Project Overview

Since 2003, Houston Wilderness has worked with over 100 businesses, environmental and governmental entities to protect and promote the diverse ecoregions of the 13-county area of Greater Houston. Houston Wilderness does so through facilitation of regional nature-based policies and initiatives that advocate for and enhance ecosystem services and environmental resilience.

A multi-year collaborative project, the Port of Houston TREES program is supported by Houston Wilderness’s work with three key goals to substantially improve the quality of life for the 6.5 million people in the Greater Houston Region: help prevent flood damage and economic losses, improve air and water quality, and provide millions of dollars in ecosystem services.

The Sun Club supports this project through a $50,000 grant that will allow for the planting of 500 new trees and the removal of invasive tree species along the Houston Ship Channel.
