What is Green Mountain Energy doing to protect the environment?

How long has Green Mountain Energy been doing business in New Jersey?

After extending our commercial plan to business customers, we entered New Jersey as an electricity supplier in March 2015 to serve residential customers with cleaner energy. We are excited to serve New Jersey residents and hope you’ll join us in our mission to change the way power is made.

Why should I choose Green Mountain Energy vs. my utility or other electricity suppliers?

Will my bill remain on the same schedule as it is now?

Yes. You'll receive your bill on the same schedule as you do now.

 

How will billing work?

You'll continue to receive and pay only one bill from your electricity utility company. The only difference is you will see electricity charges from Green Mountain Energy in the billing details section of the bill.

I’m on a budget billing plan with my utility company. Will I lose that if I switch to Green Mountain Energy?

You'll still benefit from budget billing on the delivery portion of your electricity bill. Currently, budget billing isn't available for the Green Mountain Energy supply portion of the bill.

 

Can I still pay my electricity bill online?

Yes. You can pay your bill on your utility's website, just like you always have. If you haven't already, consider enrolling in paperless billing. It's more convenient and helps save trees! 

What kinds of plans are available to me?

We offer New Jersey residents Pollution Free™ electricity, made from 100% renewable wind resources in the United States. It's available in both month-to-month and fixed-rate options so you can pick the best plan to meet your needs.

If I switch to Green Mountain will I still have reliable service?

Of course - when you choose Green Mountain Energy electricity you will still get the same reliable service you have now. Your local electric utility will continue to read your meter, provide billing, respond to power outages, and provide other services related to the delivery of electricity. If you experience delivery problems (for example, if your lights go out), please contact your utility company.

How do I become a Green Mountain Energy customer?

It’s easy to start powering your home with renewable energy by signing up online or calling toll-free: 1-800-810-7300. You'll need your utility account number to enroll. You can find it in the billing details section on your utility bill.

How soon will my service begin?

Your Green Mountain cleaner energy service will begin in one to two billing cycles, depending on your meter read date.

Will the power go out while I’m waiting for my Green Mountain Energy service to begin? Do I have to install any equipment?

No. Nothing will change about how your electricity is delivered. There will be no service interruptions and no extra equipment is required. We work with your local utility company to take care of all the arrangements. You won’t notice anything new, other than seeing Green Mountain Energy listed in the supply portion of your bill.

Is Green Mountain Energy competing against my utility company?

No. Your local utility company supports energy competition and encourages customers to choose an electricity supplier that is right for them. The utility's main job is energy delivery, while electricity suppliers (like us) help consumers choose where their energy comes from. Even after you choose an electricity supplier, your utility will still be there to read your meter, handle service calls and billing, and provide emergency assistance.

Does “electric choice” mean I get to pick any utility I want?

Not quite. It means you can choose who supplies your electricity, not the utility that delivers it. By choosing who supplies your electricity, you have the ability to choose 100% renewable energy, like from wind or solar.
